CALL FOR PAPERS

Papers Submissions are solicited from all postgrads in Scottish Universities working on contemporary philosophical issues bearing on any or all of: mind, language and logic. The conference theme is meant to be as inclusive as possible - if in doubt, send us the paper!

We're still accepting graduate papers, of which there will be time for five following the main speaker. They should be suitable for delivery in not more than twenty minutes (approx. 2000 words), and (if snail mailed) two copies sent in a form suitable for blind review, before 10 April, to

PHIBYP@srv0.arts.ed.ac.uk

Or by post, to:

SPPA Conference
Department of Philosophy
University of Edinburgh
David Hume Tower
George Square
Edinburgh
EH8 9JX

Although submissions are only being appealed to from Scottish Postgraduates, attendance at the conference is of course open to all. For further information, contact Ben at the above email or postal address.

OTHER INFORMATION

Venue The conference will be held in the conference room, in the David Hume Tower (same address as above).

Registration will be from 9.30 onwards, the first paper (Mike Martin's) planned for 10.30.

Accommodation We're concerned that no one be put off by the problematical practicalities of getting across Scotland for such an early start -- if you do think you'll have problems, let us organisers know and we'll see what we can think of. Floor space being, after all, free - New Labour, New Floor space.

General As well as furthering research excellence among the Scottish philosophy postgrads, a conscious aim of this conference is to continue the process of building links between postgrad communities in Scotland; so we look forward to welcoming as many colleagues as possible.

Previous SPPA conferences have been distinguished by the quality of the material presented and the pleasant atmosphere in which they were discussed. This conference will continue that tradition. There will be a small fee for attendance and for lunch, and we'll organise a meal etc. afterwards - further details will be distributed by email, and posted here, on this website.

Proceedings will finish at 6, after which there will be an SPPA meeting, as required by the constitution. Perhaps this could be held in a pub?- I don't see anything in the constitution that precludes this. Items for discussion in said meeting should be emailed to Hild Leslie, El Presidente, at:

PHIHMWLP@srv0.arts.ed.ac.uk

For further info please (e)mail Ben Young at the above address(s).
