Research @ Edinburgh

In the latest UK Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), 65% of Philosophy's research activity was judged to be either 'world-leading' or 'internationally excellent'.

As a guide, this puts us on a par with philosophy at Oxford and Cambridge, and so confirms our status as one of the leading departments of philosophy in the UK for research.

Research Clusters

We have research expertise in all the main areas of philosophy and have specific research strengths in the following four areas:

These research clusters are the focus for a range of research activities such as conferences, workshops, reading groups, colloquia, and so forth. In addition, we offer specific research training for postgraduates in these areas.
